A custom white oak plank ceiling install for a high-end lake home in Manson, Washington with full views of Lake Chelan. Garcia Home Renovations wrapped both the vaulted and flat ceiling sections in wide-plank white oak, built clean returns into the skylight wells, tied the planks tight around a structural wood beam, and laid out recessed lighting and ceiling speakers in straight, intentional lines. The finished ceiling reads as a single feature across the whole great room, kitchen, dining, and living all working off the same wood plane.
Wide-Plank White Oak Across Two Ceiling Planes
The great room runs two ceiling planes, a vaulted section over the dining area and a lower flat section over the kitchen and island. We wrapped both planes in wide-plank white oak, using a lighter, raw-toned oak on the lower flat ceiling and a deeper smoked-toned oak on the vaulted section so the rooms read as connected but distinct. Planks were laid out off the longest sight line and back-cut at every wall so seams stay tight and clean.
Skylight Returns & Beam Detail
Skylight wells were wrapped in matching oak on every face, including the angled returns, so the daylight reads as part of the ceiling instead of a punched hole. Around the exposed structural beam, we held tight reveals on both sides and ran the planks square so the beam reads as the feature and the ceiling carries the eye through the room.
Lighting, Speakers & Vent Layout
Before any wood went up, we mapped recessed cans, ceiling speakers, smoke detectors, and HVAC vents into clean lines off the plank layout so nothing fights the wood. Every penetration was templated and cut by hand for a flush, finished look, no oversized trim rings, no offset cans, no patched holes.
