Decks
Custom Deck Builder in Chelan and Wenatchee, WA
Around here a deck gets used most of the year, which means it takes sun, snow load, and a lot of foot traffic. We build them to handle it: proper footings, correct joist spacing, flashing where the ledger meets the house, and railings that pass inspection.
New Decks and Full Rebuilds
We start below grade with footings sized and set below frost depth, then set posts, beams, and joists at the spacing the decking material actually requires. The ledger gets lagged or bolted into solid framing and flashed so water runs out instead of into the rim joist, which is the single most common failure we find on older decks. From there it is decking, fascia, stair stringers cut to even rise, and a code-compliant railing. Multi-level decks, wraparounds, benches, planters, and privacy screens are all fair game.
Materials and What Lasts Here
Pressure-treated framing is standard underneath. On top, cedar looks and feels great but needs staining every couple of years to survive the sun. Composite and PVC decking cost more up front and give most of that maintenance time back, which matters on vacation rentals and lake properties where nobody wants to spend a weekend sanding. We will lay out the real cost difference over ten years so you can decide, and we install hidden fasteners on grooved boards for a clean top surface.
Repairs, Stairs, and Railings
Plenty of decks have solid framing under tired boards. Re-decking over sound joists, replacing rotted stair stringers, resetting wobbly posts, upgrading old railings to current height and baluster spacing, and adding lighting to steps are all smaller projects that make a big difference. If we open it up and find the structure is not safe, we will show you the problem and give you the honest option, not just a cosmetic patch.

Questions We Get About Deck Building
Do I need a permit to build a deck?+
Usually yes, once the deck is more than a low platform or is attached to the house. We handle the permit and inspections as part of the project.
Composite or wood decking?+
Wood costs less up front and needs regular staining. Composite costs more and needs almost nothing but a wash. For rentals and lake homes, composite usually wins on total cost of ownership.
Can you rebuild just the surface of my old deck?+
If the footings, posts, and joists are sound, yes. We inspect the framing first and tell you honestly whether a re-deck is safe or whether the structure needs replacing.
How long does a deck take to build?+
Most residential decks take one to three weeks once materials are on site, depending on size, height, and stair work.
